When he announced his running mate, Dennis said, “Tara represents a dynamic affirmation of our #PowerToWeThePeople campaign that offers realistic and aspirational goals for a vital, equitable, sustainable, and inclusive Ohio.” Tara is the best kind of leader, one who is truly called to serve, who lifts others up and leads by example. She calls others to act with passionate energy when the situation calls for it, and quietly when it’s more effective and appropriate.
Tara is an Akron City Councilwoman representing Ward 5. She is a truly dedicated leader in her community and in the progressive movement at large, working in service to others. She has organized to provide clean water to the residents of Flint, Michigan, and is engaged with people-powered movements like the Women’s March (see 1:24). Tara stands up and fights for adequate health care for Ohio residents, forcing large corporations to be accountable to the power the people. She introduced Senator Bernie Sanders when he visited Akron and served as an Ohio surrogate and pledged delegate during his 2016 presidential campaign for president. Tara fights for social, economic, and racial justice and safety for the residents of her community.
Tara has presented training with Our Revolution president and former Ohio State Senator Nina Turner on the ins and outs of running for office. She is a role model and source of information for Ohio progressives considering stepping into leadership roles, and is a positive force for change in her community and beyond.
